Moving stress comes from compression — trying to make a hundred decisions in the final week. This plan decompresses the move across eight weeks, so no single weekend ever feels overwhelming.

Weeks 8–6: Decide and declutter

Get three in-home quotes from local movers (in-home quotes are far more accurate than phone estimates). Start a ruthless declutter — every box you don't pack is money and effort saved. Sell, donate, discard.

Weeks 5–3: Book and notify

  • Book your mover, elevator reservations and any storage.
  • Schedule utility transfers for both addresses.
  • File change-of-address; update bank, insurance and subscriptions.
  • Begin packing rarely-used rooms — label everything by room and priority.

Weeks 2–0: Pack and land

Pack daily-use items last, confirm details with your movers, defrost the freezer, and prepare a first-night box per person. On moving day your only jobs are directing traffic and doing the final walkthrough — everything else was already decided weeks ago.
